When a blog does not allow readers to comment it should be a red flag that they are trying to promote their own agenda. They are worried that someone will say something that will expose another side to the argument, or a hole in their argument. This is rather old fashioned and goes against the very nature of the internet and cyber-culture in general. As participants in this culture, we value the open discussion and availability of knowledge—for bloggers not to allow comments goes completely against this. The reason why a political blogger would do this is obvious—there are always many ways to look at political issues, but politicians often feel the need to choose one side and stick behind it until the end (so as not to receive the dreaded label of flip flopper). The only other reason I can imagine why a blogger would choose not to allow comments is if they had had a lot of problems in the past with trolls or offensive language or something like that. This would especially be a concern if the blog were marketed towards children. Usually, however, I think it should be a red flag of deception.
